MT360 CONFERENCE TO BRIDGE GAP BETWEEN MANUFACTURING AND TECHNOLOGY COMMUNITIES
To accelerate the integration of emerging technologies into manufacturing applications, AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology has created the MT360 Conference. Held June 18 to 20, 2019, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif., MT360 will feature more than 30 TED-type talks. Presentations focus on four transformative technologies: additive manufacturing, augmented reality, cognitive automation and the digital thread. A simulated factory will provide demonstrations and a forum to interact with representatives from leading legacy and 16 start-up companies.  (more)
U.S. Cutting Tool Consumption Up 8 Percent In February
February 2019 U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $205.6 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was down 4.4 percent from January’s $215.1 million and up 8 percent when compared with the $190.3 million reported for February 2018. With a year-to-date total of $420.7 million, 2019 is up 13 percent when compared with 2018.  (more)
NEWS RELEASE: U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders for February 2019
Manufacturing technology orders totaled $337.2 million in February 2019 accounting for a 15 percent decline from January and a seven percent decline from the previous February, according to the latest USMTO  report from AMT. The year-to-date total was $735.2 million, less than one percent off the year-to-date total at this point last year.  (more)

Siri - “My new Digital Assistant”

If you’re anything like me with my old iPhone 6s, you only used Siri to get information on trivial things like “Hey Siri, how many drams in a shot of Glenlivet?” and “Hey Siri, what movie is on the Hallmark Channel tonight?” She was a novelty at best and the only time you could use Siri hands free, with the 6s, was when the phone was plugged into a charger. What I never figured, until a few weeks ago, was what a huge asset Siri can be for a Road Warrior.

IMTEX 2019 confirms strength of India market

The Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association’s flagship exhibition, IMTEX, took place in Bangalore this past January. The exhibition showcased technologies that are vital for moving the Indian manufacturing and machine tool industry forward in this transformative age. It was the 50th anniversary of the show and the corresponding golden jubilee activities made for an interesting event from both a technology and cultural standpoint.
