07 February 2012AMT Signs Association Letter Urging Bonus Depreciation ExtensionAMT joined 115 associations in urging House and Senate conferees to add a temporary extension of 100% bonus depreciation to the payroll tax cut bill they are considering. Current law allows businesses to immediately expense 50% of the cost new equipment bought and placed in service in 2012, down from 100% in 2011. The associations urged the lawmakers to extend 100% expensing through 2012 to support business investment and job creation.(more) |

06 November 2009President Signs NOL Carryback ExtensionNovember 6, 2009 - In a major victory for AMT, President Obama signed The Worker, Homeowner, and Business Act of 2009. In addition to extending unemployment benefits and the homebuyer tax credit, the new law also extends for an additional year the 5-year Net Operating Loss Carryback provision which was enacted as part of the Recovery Act last winter. It expands it to include medium and large businesses as well. Business losses incurred in 2008 or 2009 can now be used to recoup taxes paid in the prior five year. Extension of the 5-year NOL carryback provision is a top priority for AMT. Our government relations department lobbied hard for it enactment. (more) |
29 October 2009House Leadership Introduces $894 Billion Healthcare PackageOctober 29, 2009 - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) unveiled the Affordable Health Care for America Act, H.R. 3962, on the steps of the U.S. Capitol today. The nearly 2,000-page bill would extend healthcare to 36 million currently uninsured Americans over the next decade at a cost of $894 billion dollars. The bill would largely be paid for by imposing a "millionaire's surtax" on individuals earning over $500,000 and couples over $1 million. AMT strongly opposes a surtax to pay for healthcare reform as this tax increase would fall on many small businesses as well. (more) |
21 October 2009President Announces Proposal to Ease Credit to Small BusinessesOctober 20, 2009 - President Obama announced a new proposal to improve access to credit for small business. The President's plan would redirect a portion of TARP funds away from Wall Street to community banks at a reduced dividend rate. It would also increase the maximum loan amounts for SBA 7(a), 504, and Micro Loans. Congress has also been working on proposals to ease the credit crunch for small businesses. (more) |
