On the third day of the Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS 2016, the Gene Haas Foundation announced $100,000 in scholarships to 100 high schools who applied and attended the summit. These high schools will award $1,000 scholarships to 2017 graduating seniors who plan to pursue a postsecondary education in manufacturing technology.

The Gene Haas Foundation offers scholarships to high schools, community colleges and special education programs that help build skills within the machining industry. In 1983, Gene Haas started Haas Automation, which builds CNC machine tools and has expanded to a billion dollar company. The foundation is dedicated to countering the misperceptions around careers in manufacturing and reducing the skills gap of a qualified workforce.
