MTConnect Strategic Roadmap Project wrapping up this month

The MTConnect Strategic Roadmap project will conclude on March 31, 2015. The project was funded by one of the 19 advanced manufacturing technology planning grants from NIST, under its Advanced Manufacturing Technology Consortia (AMTech) Program, announced in May 2014. The grant was awarded to new or existing industry-driven consortia to develop technology roadmaps aimed at strengthening U.S. manufacturing and innovation performance across industries. The results of the project will be presented at the [MC]2 Conference on April 29, 2015.

Please direct questions about this project to Russ Waddell, MTConnect Product Manager at AMT, at rwaddell@AMTonline.org or 703-827-5258.  #MTConnect

DoE Industry Day and DMDII Workshop held in Atlanta

The Department of Energy (DOE) held its Industry Day event February 24, 2015, at Georgia Tech Global Learning Center, Atlanta, Ga. The workshop brought together parties interested in responding to the upcoming Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute on Smart Manufacturing. Hilena Hailu attended on behalf of AMT and MTConnect Institute to understand the difference between the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) and this Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute on Smart Manufacturing.  According to Dr. Mark Johnson, Director of DOE – Advanced Manufacturing Office, DMDII will innovate on the digital thread across the supply chain, from suppliers to end-of-life to recycling, while the Innovation Institute on Smart Manufacturing will largely focus on energy management.

The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) hosted a workshop on six out of seven of its most recent project calls, namely DMDII-15-02 to DMDII-15-07, at the Atlanta Airport Marriott on February 24-25, 2015. Hilena Hailu and Paul Warndorf attended on behalf of the MTConnect Institute. A number of project teaming opportunities were discussed. MTConnect Institute will be a part of at least one project team and submit a white paper by the April 1, 2015, deadline.

For information about the DMDII project calls, visit dmdii.uilabs.org. To explore the possibility of teaming on any of the projects, contact me, Hilena Hailu, at hhailu@AMTonline.org or 703-827-5293. #MTConnect
