With more than 2,300 exhibitors and 1.3 million net sq. ft. of exhibit space, the question of where to begin your IMTS 2016 visit can be overwhelming. Here’s the scoop on some can’t-miss starting points.
  1. IMTS 2016 opening ceremony will take place on Monday, September 12, 9:30 - 10:00 a.m., in the Grand Concourse between the North and South Buildings. AMT Chairman Richard Simons, President/CEO of Hardinge Inc., and AMT President Douglas Woods will speak.
  2. AMT’s Emerging Technology Center (ETC) (North Bldg., Booth N-70) will showcase a groundbreaking new technology app and displays of the most exciting new products made through additive manufacturing.
    • See AMT’s first iteration of Tech Trends, a new app that tracks and monitors the latest technology advancements in manufacturing. The app is an aggregator for manufacturing research and development from a wealth of sources, displayed in a custom feed based on user-defined search terms.
    • Explore the “additive bionic human,” featuring medical implants such as trachel, cranial and joints made through additive manufacturing and 3D bioprinting of organs and tissues.
    • Discover the AMIE (Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy) project from the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), which demonstrates rapid innovation through additive manufacturing to connect a natural gas-powered hybrid electric vehicle to a high-performance building that produces, consumes and stores renewable energy.  
    • Check out ORNL 3D printed vehicles, including its famous all-electric Shelby Cobra and a 1952 Willys Army Jeep replica.
  3. The AMT Experience (North Bldg., C Hall, Booth NC-785), new to IMTS and exclusively for AMT members, is a great place to unwind amid the show’s hustle and bustle.
    • Relax in the AMT Member Lounge – a comfortable setting to enjoy some quiet moments with complimentary refreshments. 
    • Meet with AMT employees to find out how we can help you grow your business through market research, global services, technology research, and more.
    • Shop the IMTS store for swag.
    • Attend AMT’s Power Hour events on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 15, 4:30 - 7 p.m., for casual networking with fellow AMT members over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. 
  4. MMS Top Shops (West Bldg., Booth W-10), presented by Gardner Business Media and IMTS, introduces new concepts and leading technologies that are redefining how a modern machine shop operates.
    • Learn business development and management strategies that will help your company run more productively and profitably. 
    • See how your shop compares to other leading manufacturers based upon a range of key benchmarking survey metrics that define upper-echelon “Top Shops.”  
    • Visit the Top Shops hall to learn more about past and present benchmarking program winners and see what sets them apart from the others. 
    • Stop by the Top Shops store to pick up the latest industry gear. 
  5. Today’s Technology Center (West Bldg., Booth W-20), sponsored by GIE Media’s Manufacturing Group and IMTS, demonstrates how businesses are implementing the latest advancements in manufacturing technology. Features include:
    • The Ohio State University EcoCar3 —a 2016 Chevy Camaro that students converted to a plug-in hybrid vehicle, featuring lightweight materials and advanced computer controls. 
    • The Airbus H130 7-person helicopter.
    • The new General Motors Cadillac CT6 mixed material structure vehicle.
  6. Visit the more than 2,300 exhibitors and be sure to use the IMTS 2016 MyShow Planner, a free web-based app that organizes your itinerary for the show to ensure a successful visit to IMTS. To sign up, go to
