The top 10 indicators that AMT monitors as to the health of the manufacturing technology market are coming in strong. In addition to those indicators, the Cutting Tool Market Report for March posted the fifth consecutive year-over-year increase, suggesting that machine utilization is climbing.  (more)
Central Europe update: Industries for top growth
The largest market for manufacturing technology in Eastern Europe, Russia, annually absorbs $1.5 - 1.8 billion in imports of machine tools and equipment. The political climate notwithstanding, trade with Russia has become more complicated in recent years for several other reasons.  (more)
Florida school receives 3D printer from MFG Meeting 5K proceeds
In March, 76 runners met before dawn at The MFG Meeting in Amelia Island, Fla., to run the event’s Miles for Manufacturing 5K. Weeks later, AMT Vice President – Smartforce Development Greg Jones visited Titusville, Fla., to present a MakerGear 3D printer to Imperial Estates Elementary School that was donated with race proceeds.  (more)

A struggle that manufacturers often identify is the ability to keep up with the latest industry technology developments. May 8th, 2017 - U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders for March 2017
Manufacturing technology orders continued to make gains in March, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Orders were up 34.8 percent compared to February, and up 3.3 percent compared to March 2016.  (more)
Shutdown averted, and a new tax proposal
In a last-minute attempt to avoid a government shutdown, congressional Republicans forged a deal with Democrats to fund the government through September 30. The big surprise in this bitterly divided Congress was a rare show of bipartisanship that dealt wins to both parties, but also included significant compromise on both sides.  (more)
U.S. Cutting Tool 2017 YTD Consumption up 5.9% in March
March U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $200.05 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was up 14.3% from February’s $174.98 million and up 8.4%  when compared with the total of $184.57 million reported for March 2016. With a year-to-date total of $548.08 million, 2017 is up 5.9% when compared with 2016.
