Certified Manufacturing Technology Sales Engineer (CMTSE)
The Certified Manufacturing Technology Sales Engineer (CMTSE) Program is the only nationally recognized program that acknowledges individuals who possess the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively perform as manufacturing technology sales engineers.
Since 1993, more than a thousand individuals have taken the CMTSE exam and have earned the CMTSE designation through a combination of practical experience, formal study and successful completion of a comprehensive, nationwide examination.

The CMTSE Study Guide and exam are developed by AMT's Certification Committee. Content is derived from a comprehensive Sales Engineer Job Analysis drawn from the metal cutting, forming, and fabricating experience of professionals across the U.S. and Canada and followed by a national industry validation.
The CMTSE program is supported by AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology, The National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA), Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), The Machinery Dealer's National Association (MDNA), and the Canadian Machine Tool Distributors' Association (CMTDA).
The exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions and lasts approximately three (3) hours in duration. The online exam is provided four times per year and administered in a proctored environment:
Upcoming CMTSE Exams
The CMTSE credential is awarded in three-year terms and must be renewed at the end of each term. November 1, 2020, is the recertification deadline for CMTSEs who first certified in 2017 and those who recertified in 2017.

Note: As of January 2013, after careful consideration, the CMTSE sub-committee decided that replacing "Machine Tool" in the CMTSE name with "Manufacturing Technology" is appropriate considering the depth of the knowledge that CMTSEs require in the entire manufacturing process.
