U.S. Cutting Tool 2017 YTD Consumption up 7.7% in August
August U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $196.23 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was up 14.8% from July’s $170.95 million and up 11.6% when compared with the total of $175.81 million reported for August 2016. With a year-to-date total of $1.462 billion, 2017 is up 7.7% when compared with 2016.

 The expansion of manufacturing technology orders slowed in August, but continued to push recovery into its third quarter according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report. August orders were up 16 percent from July and 14 percent from August 2016.  (more)

This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was down 8.4% from June’s $186.57 million and up 16.0% when compared with the total of $147.43 million reported for July 2016. U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders for July 2017
US Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) continued to expand in July, up 23% from July 2016 order levels. The July rate of increase is a notable acceleration in growth relative to the 10% increase in June orders posted over the previous year.   (more)
August 14 - U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders for June 2017
June manufacturing technology orders climbed 6.5 percent over May, according to a report released by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. The latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) report also shows a year-over-year increase of more than 10 percent, the fifth consecutive month posting a year-over year gain.  (more)

January U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $173.05 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was up 8.7% from December’s $159.17 million and up 8.7%  when compared with the total of $159.22 million reported for January 2016. Manufacturing technology orders saw year-over-year gains for the third consecutive month in October 2016, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology.  Orders for the month were valued at $335.48 million, up 0.2 percent compared to the same month last year. AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology Selected as National Partner to Grow Apprenticeships in Manufacturing
AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology is proud to be partnering with the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), which has been selected by the United States Department of Labor as an industry intermediary to support the expansion of registered apprenticeships within manufacturing. AMT will work with NIMS to increase access to apprenticeships and assist employers in developing new programs that reach diverse talent pools.  As part of this initiative, $500,000 is available to support companies in establishing a registered apprenticeship program with the Department of Labor.

Manufacturing technology orders for May 2016 fell 18.2 percent compared to May 2015, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Through the first five months of 2016, orders are down 16.7 percent compared to the same point the prior year. April 11, 2016 - USMTO News Release for February Manufacturing Technology Orders
The U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report (USMTO) for February 2016 showed that orders were down 5.1% compared to the previous month, and down 12.8% compared to the same month in 2015. The report is generated from data compiled by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Orders for capital equipment continue to slump as the overall U.S. manufacturing industry battles the effects of a strong dollar and weak demand from international markets. While Europe, Japan and the United States are seeing economic expansion, China continues to struggle along with other emerging global economies. However, increasing commodity prices and other positive economic indicators could point to a more favorable climate for some sectors of U.S. manufacturing, particularly mining, construction and agricultural.   (more)

The U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report (USMTO) for January 2016 showed that order values were down 30 percent from December, according to AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Year-over-year orders declined 21 percent. AMT expects the overall market for manufacturing technology to remain weak well into the spring and summer months. Activity should slowly begin to turn around this fall. The total order value represented a 13.8% decline compared to November 2014.
