AMT recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Shanghai Technology Center in the International Machine Tools Center, within the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Shanghai, China.

At 17,000 square feet, the AMT STC is sleek and spacious, and represents Shanghai's vibrant manufacturing market and expansion into intelligent manufacturing. Featuring a 5,000-square-foot display and demonstration showroom for advanced manufacturing equipment and technology, the STC boasts 20 private offices, 20 open configuration work spaces, three conference/training rooms, and 1,300 square feet of warehouse space.

“Since 2013, imported machine technology has increased progressively 10 percent per year,” said one Chinese news source. Five Chinese new channels covered the event. Two are highlighted here:

  • Shanghai TV News: Gives an overview of how foreign companies can delay paying duties on their imported machines to China by using a free trade zone.

  • Pudong TV News: Focuses on the foreign companies working in the STC.

Since opening its first foreign Technology and Service Center in Shanghai in 2004, with the assistance of a MDCP Grant from the International Trade Administration,  AMT has helped more than 100 member companies increase their sales and distribution in China. “Many have “graduated” from the STC and left after a sufficient incubation period to establish their own offices and factories, said Ed Christopher, AMT Vice President – Global Services. “Others have stayed with the STC from the start, recognizing inherent benefits and efficiencies such as displaying and demonstrating high-tech equipment and machinery as well as help with distribution, sales, machine servicing.”

Doug Woods, AMT President, gave the keynote speech for the STC grand opening, ribbon-cutting ceremonyNotable speakers included:

The STC ribbon-cutting ceremony attracted a crowd of more than 300 people including Chinese and American government officials, business leaders, AMT members, and news crews.
