Working Toward the Fed Meeting

Although the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation remains above the 2% target, softening labor market conditions have led to increased calls for interest rate cuts. Despite overall signs of weakness, manufacturing job openings remain 33% above the average from the end of the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID recession.

A quarter-point cut next Wednesday may not bring the rate out of restrictive territory, but it could buoy a cooling labor market and further exacerbate the need for additional employees in manufacturing.

Keep track of the latest USMTO reports to see how changing rates and the ongoing need for labor in manufacturing affect demand for manufacturing technology.
