June 2025 US Cutting Tool Orders Total $204.1M, Down 1.8% From May

Shipments of cutting tools, measured by the Cutting Tool Market Report, totaled $204.1 million in June 2025, declining 1.8% from May 2025 and 3.9% from June 2024. Year-to-date shipments totaled $1.23 billion, a drop of 4.9% from the same period in 2024.

Working Toward the Fed Meeting

Although the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation remains above the 2% target, softening labor market conditions have led to increased calls for interest rate cuts. Despite overall signs of weakness, manufacturing job openings remain 33% above the average from the end of the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID recession.

A quarter-point cut next Wednesday may not bring the rate out of restrictive territory, but it could buoy a cooling labor market and further exacerbate the need for additional employees in manufacturing.
